While some celebrities converted their religion to attain spirituality, others followed suit purely for love.  There are many South Indian celebrities who have changed their religion. Some of them have even gone to an extent and changed their names. Here are some of the most famous South Indian celebrities who changed their religion.

1. Nagma

Nagma was born to a Muslim mother and a Hindu father. But she found faith in Christianity. Nagma went public about her change of faith in 2008. In her testimony, her extensive knowledge of Bible amazed her fans. In one of the meetings she was quoted as saying that Jesus Christ was the only superstar in her life, and that she wanted to preach and spread the Gospel to every town and city the Lord takes her to.

2. AR Rahman

A R Rahman was born as AS Dileep Kumar. The Oscar Award winner was an atheist at his young age but he found the belief or faith in God with Islam. Hence, he converted to the Muslim community in 1989 and changed his name as Alla-Rakha Rahman.

3. Khushboo

Actress Khushboo who is a Muslim by birth converted to Hinduism to Marry Sundar C. It is said that she took this decision on her own. The actress has modified her lifestyle as per the Hindu guidelines.

4. Yuvan Shankar Raja

Yuvan Shankar Raja converted to Islam. It is believed that he has been practising Islam after his mother passed away. But he has not changed his name yet.

5. Nayantara

Nayanthara was born and brought up as a Syrian Christian. She converted to Hinduism to marry Prabhu Deva at the Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai. She has gone through Shuddhi Karma, a procedure involving a Vedic purification and a Homam where Nayanthara chanted the hymns from Veda and Gayatri Mantra under the guidance of the priest. After the purification ceremony, a Certificate of Conversion to Hinduism was issued to her and her stage name, Nayanthara, became her official name.

6. Monica

The popular Tamil actress Monica who is known for her films like Azhagi and Silanthi has converted to Islam, and her new name is M G Rahima.

7. Lissy

This famous actress in Malayalam film industry during 80's and 90's converted to Hinduism to marry director Priyadarshan She converted to Hinduism and changed her name to Lakshmi.She was born in a Christian family.It is also reported that she reverted back to Christianity following her divorce from the director.

8. Annie

Malayalam actress Annie is from a Christian family and converted to Hinduism after her love marriage with Shaji Kailas and changed her name to Chitra Shaji Kailas.
